Hopi Ear Candles

Hopi ear candle treatmentWhat happens during a treatment?

A short consultation takes place beforehand to make sure clients are suitable for the treatment. Clients lie down on their side with their head supported on a pillow so the auditory canal is vertical. The candle is then gently fitted into the ear and turned slightly to seal it in place. When lit, the candle generates a pleasant crackling sound and a warm sensation within the ear. After around 10 minutes, the process is repeated on the other ear. This is followed by a period of relaxation, and a facial massage concentrating on the sinus areas.

How does it work?

The combination of the heat with the therapeutic oils produce a light suction action within the candle. This is known as the chimney effect.

What are the potential benefits?

Ear candling is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries in many cultures throughout the world. The candles are used today as a relaxing treatment to ease away the stresses of our Western culture and to address a number of problems related to the ear, neck and face areas. This treatment benefits sinus complaints, headaches, tinnitus, balance problems, pain or pressure when flying, Menier’s Disease and swimmers ear. This is a truly relaxing treatment which induces balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses.

One treatment can be enough to address less severe problems; however, in some cases more frequent sessions may be needed. Please note: it is advisable to avoid water sports and swimming for 24 hours after treatment.

Hopi ear candlesThe Hopi Ear Candles used in my treatment sessions are Biosun candles. These are one of the only EU standard candles on the market. They are specially designed with a safety filter and a red line marked on them to designate the maximum burn level. Biosun candles are made from linen, pure beeswax, honey extract, and essential oil.
